Mapping is a tool used to check the following:

• Firewall settings (protection against malicious usage of network).
• IP Range (protection against malicious usage of network).
• Identify unused hardware.
• Define whether traffic between ports is working correctly.
• Check for network storms (A message that has been broadcast across a network results in even more responses, and each response results in still more responses in a snowball effect. This can cause considerable slower network speeds).
